MSc., BFA | Founder & Executive Director
Jamie J. Thompson is a performing arts executive, choreographer, and scholar-practitioner whose career spans performance, choreography, education, and arts administration across the Caribbean, Americas, and beyond. Our Commitment
We believe the sustenance of a global creative arts ecosystem requires honoring the social and cultural fabric of every community we serve.
Keeping traditions alive while creating space for them to grow, evolve, and reach new audiences across the globe.
Supporting artists who push beyond tradition while honoring the roots of their practice and the communities from which they come.
Ensuring the arts remain a mirror for the global social climate, a catalyst for change, and a bridge between cultures.

Cultivating a global arts movement by empowering artists, advancing ideas, and building communities.
Who We Are
The Jamie Thompson Arts Foundation (JTAF) is dedicated to cultivating a thriving creative arts ecosystem that spans the globe. Through education, innovation, and cultural ingenuity, JTAF invests in the artists, ideas, and communities that keep culture alive, relevant, and ever-evolving.
We believe the arts are not a luxury — they are a necessity. A force that connects humanity, preserves culture, and drives the world forward.
JTAF administers its mission through three programs: the Creative Exploration and Innovation Lab (CEIL), Decode Dance, and CMPNY CLASS.

Each program is a distinct expression of the JTAF mission — together forming a complete ecosystem for the global arts.

The Founder
A native of Belize, Central America, Jamie J. Thompson is internationally known and respected for his vision, professionalism, and commitment to excellence.
He spent his formative years on philanthropic endeavors through the arts, serving as director and choreographer for productions presented by the Rotary Club of Belize (2005–2009). He began formal dance training with the Belize National Dance Company and The Dramatic Forces School of Dance.
His passion for dance led him to earn a BFA in Dance Performance and Choreography from Belhaven University in Jackson, MS. His professional career began with the Dallas Black Dance Theatre (2010–2014), after which he served as Executive & Artistic Director of the International Conservatory of Performing Arts (2014–2016), where he exceeded first-year revenue projections by 25%, directed the construction of a 40,000 square foot performance and education facility, and established the organizational infrastructure for long-term institutional growth.
A choreographer and pedagogue of international reach, Jamie is the founder of DECODE DANCE — a pedagogical experience integrating classical, contemporary, and Africanist movement traditions — with partnerships across Jamaica, Haiti, and the United States. His directing and choreography credits span the United States, Belize, and beyond, including productions of Passing Strange, Bubblin' Brown Sugar, and several regional Caribbean works.
As a performer, Jamie has worked with Dallas Black Dance Theatre, Bruce Wood Dance, Contemporary Ballet Dallas, Collin County Ballet Theatre, Dance Place (Washington, D.C.), and Tuacahn Performing Arts Center (St. George, Utah). He was a member of the Dance Ensemble of Disney's The Lion King on Broadway for four seasons (2019–2023) and served as Associate Director of NUBORA, an Afro-futurist production presented through the United Nations Global Africa Business Initiative (2025).
Jamie's commitment to arts education spans institutions across four countries. He has served as Senior Lecturer at the Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts in Kingston, Jamaica (2018), and as an Adjunct Professor at NYU Tisch School of the Arts (2021–present). His guest teaching credits include Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet, Dallas Black Dance Theatre Academy, The Dallas Conservatory, Texas Ballet Theatre School, and numerous other institutions across the U.S. and Caribbean.
A published scholar, Jamie contributed to Caribbean Men in the Arts: Demystifying Masculinities (Cambridge Scholars Publishing, 2024) and has been featured in BlackInk magazine. He holds a Master of Science in Organizational Leadership from the University of Denver (2023) and is committed to impactful, innovative leadership at the intersection of artistic excellence, cultural stewardship, and institutional sustainability.

Artistic Innovation
A creative lab where original dance, music, theatre, and multimedia experiences are born — and brought fully to life.
Submit your proposalWhat it is
The Creative Exploration and Innovation Lab (CEIL) is JTAF's artistic incubator — a space where new dances, music, plays, and musicals are developed into full experiences.
CEIL provides artists with the resources, support, and creative freedom needed to bring original works rooted in global culture to life. Every project begins with a question: what happens when we push beyond tradition and create from the present?
From reimagining cultural narratives to incubating entirely original works — CEIL challenges artists to think differently and create boldly.
CEIL operates at the intersection of creativity and culture. No idea is too bold. Every work begins with a vision and is supported through to full production.
Dance, music, theatre, and multimedia works developed from concept to full production.
From the first idea to the final bow — artists receive the resources they need at every stage.
Every production built with global cultural experience at its core — not as decoration, but as foundation.
Productions built for audiences who want to experience art that reflects the world as it is.
Get involved
CEIL is for artists with bold ideas and the drive to see them through — creators ready to push beyond convention and build something that has never been done before.
Have an original idea? Bring it to CEIL. We want to hear from bold creators with a vision and the commitment to see it through.
Choreographers, composers, playwrights — CEIL is built for collaboration. Bring your expertise to a production already in the lab.
Partner with CEIL to bring original works to your stage or commission new productions for your community.
Supporting CEIL means directly funding the creation of works that reflect global culture and push the art form forward.

A multidimensional dance experience integrating classical, contemporary, and Africanist practices — expanding how you move, think, and express.
Get in touchWhat it is
Decode Dance is a multidimensional dance experience founded by Jamie J. Thompson that combines technique and sensibilities from classical, contemporary, and Africanist dance practices.
It emphasizes the integration of multiple movement languages and cultural understandings — helping dancers fully embody and express hybridized movement at the highest level.
The approach values both technical mastery and the development of expressive, full-bodied movement.
Decode Dance is not about choosing one tradition over another. It is about expanding what is possible when multiple movement languages meet.
Dancers are held to the highest technical standards across each tradition.
Each movement language carries cultural DNA. Decode Dance develops the awareness to honor those roots.
The goal is full embodiment — not imitation. Dancers learn to move fluidly across traditions.
Every session pushes dancers beyond their comfort zone — deepening their practice.
Who it's for
Decode Dance offers dancers at all levels an inclusive space where they can expand their movement range and push the level of their personal practice.
Build a rich, multi-dimensional technical foundation — learn how movement languages speak to each other.
Expand your vocabulary, deepen your cultural awareness, and bring new dimension to your existing practice.
Develop a broader lens for creating and teaching — integrating traditions in ways that are authentic and expansive.

CMPNY CLASS is a free, ongoing training and community space built specifically for emerging and mid-career professional dancers — those who have put in the years, developed their craft, and are actively pursuing work.
No audition to get in the door. No tuition. No cost — because cost should never be what stands between a trained dancer and their next step.
CMPNY CLASS holds the door open while a career fully takes hold.
The performing arts built a pipeline and forgot the bridge. The gap between preparation and opportunity is where careers go quiet — not for lack of talent, but for lack of support.
Show up, train, and become part of a community actively invested in your next move. No cost, no catch.
Producers and choreographers — access a pool of trained, career-ready performers actively available.
Guest teaching, masterclasses, industry panels. If you have knowledge that serves this room, we want to hear from you.
Your support directly subsidizes a workforce that has already proven its commitment.
Who it's for
Whether you finished your BFA two years ago or have been working professionally for a decade — this space was built with you in mind.
Fresh out of a training program and ready to build real professional connections and keep your body sharp.
Between projects and navigating what comes next — you belong here too.
Ready to invest in your community as much as your craft — and find people doing the same.
